Occupational Health and Safety

Introduction

MBI assists each employer in the MBI Incubator Center with the development and implementation of a comprehensive health and safety program for their company. MBI’s occupational health and safety staff assist employers with required plans and programs, provide employee training, maintain chemical inventories, conduct lab inspections, oversee programs for hazardous waste disposal, and provide technical assistance with any other company health and safety issue. To make this program complete, MBI assists in obtaining licensing and permits to ensure that laboratories are properly equipped and maintained. Once a company leaves MBI they should have all the resources necessary to maintain this program at their new facility. MBI Health & Safety Staff is available to assist you in your training and compliance needs in areas such as:

  • OSHA Chemical Hygiene Program
  • MDEP Hazardous Waste Regulations
  • OSHA Emergency Evacuation Plan
  • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard
  • NIOSH /CDC Biosafety Guidelines
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Radiation Safety
  • Periodic laboratory inspections and compliance audits to identify and correct and deficiencies and prepare for potential regulatory visits.

Permit Assistance and Employee Training

MBI Health and Safety staff will evaluate your work environment to determine which permits are applicable and what level of training is necessary to maintain compliance with the above mentioned programs. MBI will assist you with the permit application process and represent you during regulatory inspections to ensure that permits are obtained and maintained. Periodically throughout the year, training presentations are offered at each location for your convenience. Certificates of attendance will be provided so that you may maintain documentation of the training.

  • City of Worcester Flammable Liquid/ Hazardous Materials storage permit
  • City of Worcester Recombinant DNA permit
  • MA Department of Environmental Protection hazardous waste generator Identification number
  • Upper Blackstone Wastewater permit
  • Radiation License with MA Department of Public Health
  • Contracts with vendors to pick up hazardous waste & biological waste
  • Management of documentation such as hazardous waste manifests, medical tracking papers and training certifications

Environmental Health and Safety Compliance

In support of this commitment, MBI expects each company to maintain compliance with applicable Local, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Environmental regulations. MBI supports the compliance activities of each company by providing awareness and training, inspections, and assistance in obtaining required permits and approvals.
