Massachusetts Life Sciences Innovation Day 2012
May 30, 2012 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Harvard Club of Boston 374 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston

The 5th Massachusetts Life Sciences Innovation (MALSI) Day is the biggest day for life sciences startups and innovation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This is a high-energy, hands-on event which brings together scientific leaders and business experts to mingle with innovators, post-docs, professors, entrepreneurs, innovators, and venture capitalists.

The Burden of proof:  As scientific breakthroughs progress from the moment of discovery through development to the market, inventors and developers have to show that the technology works – they have to “Prove It!”  Our conference this year will focus on how and when you have to prove your technology and what investors, regulators and payors need to understand the product’s viability and efficacy.  Panel sessions will address: what data is required from the academic lab before the technology can be transferred to a company; what sort of “Proof of Concept” data is needed prior to pre-clinical work; what is required in the Clinic; and how new business models are being proved out following changes in the market.  WPI Venture Forum

The WPI Venture Forum serves innovative entrepreneurs with programs and resources relevant to technology entrepreneurship. The programs are open to the public, but one can become a member of the organization for an annual fee and enjoy free admission to events.

Our audience includes new and experienced entrepreneurs, C-Suite business owners, service providers, investors, faculty members, students, and job seekers developing and/or servicing new technologies and/or technology ventures. Attend if you are seeking venture partners, investment, networking opportunities, peer advice, professional services, and knowledge through our speakers, case presentations and critiques.

WPI Venture Forum activities include ten Monthly Programs and corresponding newsletters, workshops and networking events, an annual Business Plan Contest and a Five-Minute Pitch Contest. The monthly programs include a speaker (or panel of speakers), case presentations, case critique, Spotlight on Entrepreneurs (a one-minute funding pitch opportunity), networking, and refreshments. Workshops are centered around a relevant topic related to tech entrepreneurship and networking events are held throughout the region and typically include a facility tour.

Directed by a volunteer Executive Board comprised of regional business and service organization leaders, many of whom are entrepreneurial alumni, the WPI Venture Forum is a program of the Collaborative for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in the School of Business at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Students are encouraged to attend to learn cutting edge entreprenership information and through observation and practice to develop soft skills such as networking, pitch, and an understanding of US social business customs.

Operational funding is solely provided through sponsorships, memberships, and admission fees.
