MBI Incubator at Gateway Park
The MBI Incubator at Gateway Park is a joint partnership between the Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives and WPI—in particular, the Bioengineering Institute. The incubator, located on the ground floor of the newly constructed WPI Life Sciences building, houses laboratories, shared equipment, and offices for up to six start-up biomedical companies. This collaboration will specifically identify and capture academic- and science-related research and transfer these discoveries into commercial company formations and jobs. MBI has built out and operates the facility. MBI has a proven history in promoting the successful statewide economic development strategy of life science business incubation. Further technology growth is also envisioned within the Park as MBI ‘graduate’ incubator companies grow into larger space requirements, thus providing further employment opportunities within our burgeoning Central Massachusetts regional biomedical industry.
Description
The WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park is the first building phase in the development of a mixed-use life sciences campus on a former Worcester brownfield. The center features new construction to house modern laboratories and support facilities and a renovated former industrial building which provides space for offices, meeting rooms, and other amenities.

Onnesion, Inc. is a privately held chemistry-based company. We conduct research to design and synthesize novel, drug-like molecular scaffolds to assist our customers in biomedical research. We also identify sophisticated molecular scaffolds and building blocks from the literature which we believe can be valuable in drug discovery research, but are not easily accessible in the marketplace. We apply extensive chemistry expertise and cutting-edge chemistry tools to access these molecular structures and make them available to research community at competitive price.

Targeted Cell Therapies (TCT) is an early-stage Massachusetts-based biotechnology company commercializing a powerful technology platform for the oral delivery of therapeutics. Our technology represents a paradigm shift for the delivery of large molecule therapeutics, enabling oral administration and avoiding the need for injection. Formulations consist of ingestible yeast glucan particles containing therapeutic nucleic acid (nanoplexed DNA or RNA) or protein payload molecules that are selectively taken up by intestinal macrophages. The glucan particle payloads are processed by cellular machinery into active therapeutics as the macrophages migrate to sites of inflammation or pathology in tissues throughout the body. Targeted Cell Therapies lead compound is for Gaucher Disease, the most common lysosomal storage disorder. Other targets include low bone density conditions, metastatic bone disease and inflammatory disorders. By combining macrophage targeting with payload versatility, our technology platform has the potential to offer strategic advantages, including improved efficacy and safety, in the delivery of large molecule therapeutics for a broad range of human conditions.
